Sanwo-Olu Pledges Safer Lagos To Boost Economic Growth

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of Lagos residents as essential drivers of sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the 2025 Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health Conference, which convened government officials, legislators, industry leaders, and safety experts, the governor stressed that protecting lives and property remains central to governance.

Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, commended the Lagos State Safety Commission for its progress and recalled his role in establishing the agency 15 years ago as a national model for occupational health and safety.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, commended Lagos for its leadership in workplace safety, noting that a healthy workforce underpins productivity, job creation, and national development.

The minister linked these efforts to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises safeguarding lives and livelihoods.

The lawmaker representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Kalejaiye Paul, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to strengthening safety and security through effective legislation and oversight.

He pledged ongoing collaboration with Lagos State and other stakeholders to uphold national safety standards.

In his presentation, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, outlined the state’s achievements in safety management, including data-driven enforcement, digital monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, highlighted ongoing measures to enhance emergency response systems through better coordination, public education, and disaster awareness.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Gbenga Oyerinde, emphasised that safety and health are integral to economic growth and social progress.

The commissioner, therefore, called for stronger collaboration and shared responsibility among stakeholders to build a more resilient and prosperous Lagos.

Themed “Occupational Safety and Health as a Catalyst for a Growing Economy,” the conference served as a forum for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership building —reinforcing Lagos State’s leadership in safety management and sustainable development.
