Sanwo-Olu unveils 420 unit housing estate in Badagry, flags off second phase

The Lagos State Government has unveiled the first phase of the Lagos State Housing Estate, Ajara — now officially named Sunny Akinsanya Ajose Housing Estate, Badagry — as part of its ongoing efforts to provide affordable and sustainable homes for residents across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led other top government officials to the unveiling ceremony, also performed the groundbreaking of the estate’s second phase, located on an expansive 18.9-hectare site.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project represents another milestone in his administration’s resolve to bridge the housing gap and improve the living conditions of Lagosians. He noted that the Ajara Housing Estate marks the 24th housing estate delivered by the state government within six years, describing it as a strong indicator of his administration’s commitment to inclusive development.

 “This project has created over two thousand direct and indirect jobs during its construction phase and will continue to serve as an engine for economic growth in Badagry and its environs,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“We are determined to ensure that decent and affordable housing is not a privilege but a right for all Lagos residents, regardless of their social or economic status,” he added.

The estate, which comprises 420 modern housing units, was named after the late Mr. Sunny Akinsanya Ajose, a former Head of Service in Lagos State, in recognition of his exemplary service and contributions to public administration.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, described the project as a testament to the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision of transforming lives through purposeful urban development.

 “This estate reflects the government’s unwavering resolve to provide safe, comfortable, and affordable homes for our people,” the Commissioner said. “Our commitment to sustainable housing delivery is evident in the modern facilities and infrastructure provided within this development.”

Community leaders and residents of Badagry, in their goodwill messages, expressed appreciation to the Sanwo-Olu administration for its continuous investment in the region. They noted that the housing project would have far-reaching impacts on the local economy by creating jobs, enhancing infrastructure, and stimulating socio-economic growth.

The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and representatives of the construction sector, all of whom commended the government’s housing initiatives as a model for inclusive development.
