The Lagos State Public Service on Sunday drew the curtain on the illustrious career of one of its most accomplished administrators and communication professionals, Mr. Olanrewaju Adetokunbo Bajulaiye, who retired as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
His retirement marks the end of a distinguished career spanning several decades, during which he rose through the ranks to become one of the state's most respected technocrats, earning admiration for his professionalism, integrity, visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Colleagues, friends, family members and stakeholders across the public communication ecosystem paid glowing tributes to the outgoing Permanent Secretary, describing him as a transformational leader whose contributions have left an indelible imprint on the Lagos State Public Service.
Bajulaiye's tenure at the Ministry of Information and Strategy was characterised by innovation, strategic communication, institutional reforms and effective public engagement. Under his leadership, the ministry strengthened government-media relations, enhanced public information management and deepened citizens' access to government policies, programmes and achievements.
A consummate communication professional, he championed professionalism among information officers while promoting ethical journalism, transparency and effective dissemination of government information.
His commitment to capacity building also earned him the respect of officers across ministries, departments and agencies, many of whom benefited from his mentorship and leadership. Staff members described him as an accessible administrator who combined firmness with compassion, inspiring excellence through personal example.
Beyond the walls of government, Bajulaiye maintained strong ties with professional bodies, particularly the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Information Chapel, where he remained a pillar of support and an advocate for the advancement of journalism and public communication.
In a goodwill message commemorating his retirement, the NUJ Lagos Information Chapel celebrated him for his "exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication and distinguished service to the Lagos State Public Service," noting that his 60 years of life reflected a legacy of impact, honour and selfless service.
Those who worked closely with him recalled his calm disposition, exceptional administrative acumen and ability to navigate complex communication challenges with wisdom and diplomacy. They said his legacy would continue to inspire both present and future generations of public servants.
As he bows out of active service, many believe that retirement will merely signal the beginning of another chapter of national service through mentoring, public policy advocacy and strategic communication consultancy.
While congratulating him on attaining the milestone of 60 years and a successful completion of his public service career, associates wished him sound health, divine grace and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
