Oshodi-Glover Bows Out Gracefully After 35 Years in Lagos Civil Service

It was an atmosphere of warmth and celebration on Monday as Mr. Jide Emmanuel Oshodi-Glover bowed out of the Lagos State Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60, bringing to a close 35 years of meritorious service.

The colourful send-forth ceremony, held at his residence in Low Cost Housing Estate, Agege, drew family, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries from across the state, who came together to honour the retiree’s legacy of humility, dedication, and professionalism.

In his keynote remarks, the former Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Television, Mr. Lekan Ogunbanwo, described Oshodi-Glover as an “infectious person,” whose humility, love, and ability always left a positive impact on those around him. “Since working together at LTV, our relationship has gone beyond colleagues—we have become family,” Ogunbanwo noted.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, represented by the Director of Administration at the Press Centre, Mrs. Adebunmi Dasilva, also paid glowing tributes to the celebrant. He praised Oshodi-Glover as an amiable, jolly, and passionate professional who gave his all to the job. “He was so dedicated and kind-hearted that his absence will be deeply felt by friends and colleagues. We pray for God’s continued grace, health, and wellness for him,” Akosile said.

Adding a personal touch to the evening, former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Agboola Oshodi, lauded his younger brother as a determined individual who pursued his dreams with vigour and consistency.

The event, though modest, brimmed with fond memories and encomiums. Among those in attendance were Mrs. Funmi Adesanya (popularly known as Iya Willy), Director of Production, Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy; members of staff of the Press Centre, Alausa; colleagues from Yaba College of Technology; as well as family members and religious leaders.

For many, the retirement of Oshodi-Glover marks the close of an era defined by diligence, professionalism, and camaraderie. For the man himself, it is the beginning of a new chapter filled with gratitude and the promise of continued service to humanity in other capacities.
