Saturday, March 28, 2026, was more than an AGM — it was a defining moment of reconnection, reflection, and renewed commitment to the shared ideals of AMACOS ’94. It brought together classmates from across locations, physically and virtually, united by a common purpose to strengthen the bond and chart a progressive path forward for the association.
Earlier, the outgoing president, accomplished advertising guru, Dr. ‘Ladi Arowa, whose two-term tenure ran from 2022 to March 2026, appreciated members for their cooperation, noting that “our goal at inauguration to build a structured, sustainable and impactful team has been achieved.” He outlined notable milestones including the registration of the association with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the establishment of a vibrant welfare framework, the landmark Teachers’ Appreciation Day held at the Ojere campus in 2023, financial support for members during major celebratory events, and the annual reunion that has continued to strengthen camaraderie among members. He charged the incoming leadership to consolidate on this solid foundation.
The election process, conducted seamlessly by the three-man electoral committee comprising Dr. Gbenro Adesina, respected print journalist and publisher of Primestar News Online, and Dr. Ayoola Ajasa, an academic and seasoned journalist and delectable and accomplished businesswoman, Mrs Funmi Aroyewun, saw all nine candidates for key positions returned unopposed.Voting took place both physically and digitally, ensuring full participation of members in the diaspora and reinforcing the inclusive spirit of the association.
Following this, the swearing-in ceremony was performed by an ex-officio member and Deputy Director/Head, Public Affairs Unit in the Lagos State Cabinet Office ,Mrs Muyiwa Ojelabi during which the newly elected executive members took an oath of office to place the interest of the association above personal considerations and to work collectively for the advancement of our alma mater.
Representing the President, Dauda Usman,who was unavoidably absent at the ceremony, the 1st Vice President, Reverend Femi Akinwande, in his remarks, commended the immediate past Exco for their impactful service and emphasized plans to expand membership, strengthen engagement with diaspora members through digital platforms, explore developmental projects for the department of mass communication, and improve revenue generation.
Setting the tone for the new administration, member Alhaji Kehinde Olajobi underscored the importance of prioritizing a sustainable financial scheme and executing a visible departmental project that will firmly establish AMACOS ’94’s presence on campus. In the same vein, former Financial Secretary, Biola Otitoju, urged members to brace up for a possible upward review of dues to be impactful while also encouraging stronger social participation, noting that active engagement remains the lifeblood of enduring friendships.
The newly inaugurated Exco, led by the President, Dauda Usman, is a dynamic blend of seasoned professionals and business executives drawn from the media and communications industry, academia, public service, politics, events and the creative sector.
With a two-year renewable mandate, the team is poised to lead the 99-member AMACOS ’94 set of the Mass Communication Department, Ogun State Polytechnic, including its diaspora community, towards greater impact and legacy.
