The Oke-Aro Kingdom in Ogun State has unveiled a weeklong programme of activities to commemorate the first coronation anniversary of its traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olayiwola Alani Sodipo, JP, the Olu of Oke-Aro Kingdom (Ilufemiloba I).
The anniversary celebration, scheduled to hold from Monday, July 6 to Sunday, July 12, 2026, is expected to bring together traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, religious organisations, market associations, artisans, youths and residents in a series of cultural, religious and social activities aimed at promoting unity, peace and community development.
According to the official programme released by the palace, the weeklong event will begin on Monday, July 6, with Isese (traditional) prayers at the Oke-Aro Kingdom Royal Palace at 6:00 a.m., marking the spiritual commencement of the anniversary.
On Tuesday, July 7, residents and fitness enthusiasts will participate in a Work for Fitness exercise beginning at 7:00 a.m., with participants assembling at the Royal Palace before embarking on the health walk.
Activities will continue on Wednesday, July 8, with a special Market Men and Women/Artisans Day at Ben-Kay Event Hub along Giwa-Ishaga Road, Oke-Aro. The event is expected to celebrate the contributions of traders and artisans to the socio-economic growth of the kingdom.
A major highlight of the celebration comes up on Thursday, July 9, with the installation of chiefs and the Iwuye ceremony at the Royal Palace. The event is expected to reinforce the kingdom's traditional institutions and recognise distinguished individuals for their service to the community.
The Muslim community will host a Jumat service on Friday, July 10, at the Oke-Aro Central Mosque, reflecting the kingdom's commitment to religious harmony and inclusiveness.
The celebration will reach its climax on Saturday, July 11, with a Royal Banquet (Grand Finale) at Ben-Kay Event Hub, beginning at 12 noon. The grand event is expected to attract eminent personalities from across the country, including traditional rulers, political leaders, captains of industry and well-wishers.
The anniversary festivities will conclude on Sunday, July 12, with a Church Thanksgiving Service at Saint Peter African Church, Oke-Aro, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The first anniversary celebration underscores Oba Sodipo's one year of leadership and his efforts toward fostering peace, preserving Yoruba cultural heritage and promoting sustainable development in Oke-Aro Kingdom.
Residents and visitors are expected to participate in the celebrations, which the palace says will further strengthen communal bonds while showcasing the rich cultural traditions and enduring values of the kingdom.
