ELagos Hosts LASOSH Conference 2025 to Drive Occupational Safety as a Pillar of Nation Building

The Lagos State Safety Commission is set to host the Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health (LASOSH) Conference 2025, with the theme: “Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) as a Catalyst for Nation Building.”

The conference, according to the organisers, is designed to address the emerging safety challenges driven by rapid urbanisation, industrial growth, and rising population in Lagos and across Nigeria. It aims to create a platform where dialogue will be translated into tangible policy actions for a safer and more sustainable society.

Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, noted that the summit will provide a strategic roadmap for embedding safety into governance and economic planning. “The Commission is committed to fostering a culture of safety that not only protects lives and livelihoods, but also strengthens our national development agenda,” he said.

Among the key policy thrusts expected from the conference are:

Integration of OSH into development frameworks and master plans;

Enforcement of occupier’s liability insurance across workplaces;

Leveraging technology-driven safety management systems for monitoring and compliance.

Program highlights include an address by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a global dialogue on international best practices with contributions from experts across different countries, panel discussions on emerging safety standards and the future of work, as well as a keynote session on sustainable nation building through occupational safety and health.

The LASOSH Conference 2025 will also explore how public-private partnerships can boost financing for safety initiatives, while promoting compliance with international standards to reduce accidents, enhance workplace productivity, and improve the quality of public spaces.

The ultimate goal of the summit is to establish a robust OSH management system, clearly define stakeholder responsibilities, and ensure effective implementation of safety policies. Organisers believe that aligning with global best practices will position Lagos and Nigeria at the forefront of workplace safety innovation in Africa.
