Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr Dotun Oladipo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, publishers of the popular online news platform, The Eagle Online, who died on Tuesday at the age of 56.
In a condolence statement issued by the Deputy Governor, he described the late media entrepreneur as a dedicated professional whose contributions to the growth of digital journalism in Nigeria would be sorely missed.
According to him, “I received with great shock the news of the passing of Mr Dotun Oladipo. This is a huge loss not only to his immediate family but to the entire media community, particularly the online publishing industry which he served with distinction for almost three decades,” the Deputy Governor said.
He noted that Mr Oladipo’s journey from his early days as Politics Editor at PUNCH Newspapers, through stints at the Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun, to founding and building The Eagle Online into one of Nigeria’s respected digital news platforms reflected a rare commitment to the profession of journalism and to the advancement of Nigeria’s evolving media landscape.
Hamzat also acknowledged Mr Oladipo’s leadership role within the media community, including his service as a former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and as pioneer President of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).
“Mr Oladipo’s passion for professional development within the media space, and his efforts to foster collaboration among journalists and publishers, will remain a lasting part of his legacy,” Hamzat added.
While commiserating with the Oladipo family, the management and staff of Premium Eagle Media Limited and The Eagle Online, as well as members of the wider journalism community, the Deputy Governor prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss and grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
