The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) is set to hold a specialised capacity-building training on the Child Rights Act 2003, as part of activities marking Democracy Day and the World Day Against Child Labour.

The training, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Mama Esther Ajayi Conference Hall, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Iyalla, Ikeja, Lagos, is aimed at equipping female journalists with the knowledge and skills required for ethical and effective reporting of child-related issues.

According to the association, the programme will focus on strengthening the capacity of women journalists to amplify child protection campaigns, accurately report cases of child abuse and exploitation, and hold relevant stakeholders accountable in safeguarding children’s rights.

The event, which begins at 10:00am, will also feature the June Congress of NAWOJ Lagos, where members are expected to deliberate on critical issues affecting the association, the welfare of female journalists, and the future of women’s participation in the media profession.

The Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Jumoke Falayi Johnson, and the Secretary, Anu Thomas, urged members to attend both sessions punctually and actively participate in the discussions.

They emphasised that the initiative reflects the association’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism, protecting vulnerable groups, and advancing the rights and welfare of women and children in society.

“Let us show up, speak up, and champion the cause of women and children in society,” the association stated.
