The consultation drive of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered significant momentum as he engaged top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.
Hamzat’s political outreach took him to the APC State Secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, where he met with party executives led by the State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, alongside members of the State Working Committee. The visit formed part of a broader strategy to consolidate party unity and strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Addressing party leaders at the secretariat, Hamzat underscored the strategic importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s stability and prosperity, stressing that the state must not falter.
“The truth of the matter is that if Lagos fails, Nigeria will have problems, and we must not fail,” he said.
He further charged party stakeholders to avoid a repeat of the setbacks experienced during the 2023 elections, calling for renewed commitment to securing a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
“We must ensure that what happened in 2023 does not repeat itself in 2027. Our goal is a resounding victory for our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and for our party in Lagos State,” Hamzat stated.
The Deputy Governor also accused opposition elements of attempting to discredit the achievements of the current administration, noting that such efforts stem from their inability to win elections.
“Our opponents are trying to demarket our electoral process because they cannot win. That is why they are working hard to undermine the good work being done by the Tinubu administration,” he added.
In his response, Ojelabi assured Hamzat of the party’s unwavering support, expressing confidence in his leadership qualities and political vision.
“We support you, we trust you, and we are very confident in your competence and humility,” the APC chairman affirmed.
From the party secretariat, Hamzat proceeded to the residence of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, where he met with key political stakeholders, including former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Speaking during the visit, Obanikoro praised Hamzat’s track record and leadership capacity, describing him as a worthy successor capable of sustaining Lagos’ developmental trajectory.
“Any sincere observer who examines Hamzat’s pedigree will agree that Lagos is in safe hands. The state must not decline but continue to grow, and with him at the helm, Lagos will soar even higher,” he said.
In his remarks, Speaker Obasa declared strong support for Hamzat, hinting at growing consensus within influential party circles.
“I have engaged in consultations with key stakeholders, and the conclusion is clear "Hamzat will carry the party’s banner. We love you, we support you, and we will work tirelessly to ensure victory,” Obasa stated.
The consultation train later moved to the residence of Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, who used the occasion to urge residents, particularly in Mushin, to actively participate in the electoral process.
“The best way to demonstrate loyalty to our party and government is to come out en masse on election day and cast your votes,” Solomon advised.
Hamzat’s ongoing consultations are widely seen as part of strategic efforts to build consensus within the APC and position the party for a strong showing in the 2027 elections, while reinforcing Lagos’ role as a political and economic stronghold within Nigeria.
