WE STAND WITH YOU, LASG REASSURES THE NIGERIAN ARMY

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reassured the Nigerian Military of its full support and commitment in ensuring that they are able to fulfill their duty to protect the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this today at the Interdenominational Divine Thanksgiving Service held in commemoration of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day which took place at the Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa, Ikeja.

The Governor who was represented at the Service by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin stated that remembering the sacrifices of the fallen heroes is truly a time of celebration of their call to discipline, courage and sacrifice which has secured the future for the nation.

He noted that their sacrifice is written in the annals of history as there is no greater love for one’s country than to lay down their lives adding that their invaluable years of service and dedication are deeply appreciated.

The Governor expressed the fact that the Armed Forces has greatly evolved in professionalism, resilience and resolve over the years; from fighting local engagements to intervening and excelling in international crises and humanitarian courses.

“We are grateful for your service, we appreciate you and we promise to stand by you at all times “, the Governor said.

He also reassured and applauded the families and dependents of the fallen heroes as they are the ones who carry the weight of absence and the grief of loss, adding that they will not be left alone in their times of need. The Governor noted that Lagos State through the Nigerian Legion has been responsive to the needs and demands of the families and dependents of injured and fallen soldiers.

Earlier in his sermon, Pastor Seyi Oladimeji, Lead Pastor of the Church Management Consult, charged everyone to rise up and support both the Armed Forces and the families of the fallen soldiers citing that God works through human hands to accomplish His purposes. 

Oladimeji quoted Isaiah 41:10 and prayed for divine strength adding that God intervenes in systems and will assist the Armed Forces to attain victory. He comforted the families of the fallen heroes not to entertain fear as the Almighty has the power to wipe their tears and console them from all their suffering 

 Rear Admiral Paul Nimmyel, Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the relentless efforts of both the living, retired and fallen heroes of the Armed Forces which has held the nation together. 

Nimmyel commended both the Federal and Lagos State Governments for their concerted efforts and support towards the welfare of both serving and retired personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. 

He opined that the Lagos State Government has demonstrated tremendous efforts in supporting the Nigerian Legion and also her continued support to security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property in Lagos State.

The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Thanksgiving Service was attended by members of the Lagos State Executive Council, Body of Permanent Secretaries, members of the Armed Forces, Associations of Wives of the Armed Forces.
