Lagos Will Witness Deeper Transformation in 2026, Says Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that 2026 will witness the delivery of more transformational projects across key sectors, including transportation, agriculture, healthcare, energy, environment and infrastructure, as his administration intensifies efforts to accelerate development and improve the quality of life of Lagosians.

The Governor gave the assurance on Sunday at the 26th Lagos State Annual Thanksgiving Service, themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies” (Lamentations 3:22–23), held at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing and inaugurating all ongoing infrastructural projects across the five IBILE divisions of the state within the year, stressing that governance in Lagos remains inclusive, people-centred and development-driven.

He noted that despite prevailing economic and social challenges, Lagos State has continued to record steady progress, attributing this to strategic planning, the resilience of residents and the solid foundation laid by successive administrations. The Governor also reiterated the alignment of his government’s THEMES Plus Agenda with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Federal Government.

According to him, sustained collaboration between the federal and sub-national governments remains critical to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach citizens at the grassroots.

Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to God for His unfailing mercies over Lagos State and appreciated President Tinubu for policy interventions under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said are already yielding positive results across the country.

Reflecting on the past year, the Governor commiserated with families who lost loved ones and praised the courage and professionalism of first responders during emergencies and disasters. He also commended religious and traditional leaders for their prayers and mediation, noting that their efforts have continued to promote peace, unity and stability in the state.

He urged leaders at all levels to rally behind the Tinubu-led Federal Government in the interest of national stability and prosperity, while calling on residents to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and federal levels. The Governor also encouraged Lagosians to participate actively in the forthcoming electronic registration exercise to formalise their party membership.

The thanksgiving service attracted a distinguished audience, including the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and his wife, Oluremi; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; former Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Pedro; former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji; and the wife of former Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bimbola Jakande.

Others in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; members of the State Executive Council; lawmakers; heads of security agencies; as well as political, religious and traditional leaders.

Clergymen at the event offered prayers for President Tinubu and his family, Governor Sanwo-Olu and his administration, the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government, and for peace, security and divine protection for Lagos State and Nigeria.

The service was enlivened by soul-stirring performances from renowned gospel artistes, including Yinka Alaseyori and Kunle Adeolu, to the delight of thousands of worshippers.
