It's a new dawn at the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission LASWARCO, as its new Executive Secretary, Mrs. Oluwabukola Khadijah Adeyemo, has assumed office, rged the members of staff, advocating for a people-focused water sector in the State.
Speakjng in Alausa, Ikeja, at her maiden interactive session with the staff and management of the Agency, Adeyemo urged stakeholders and partners to join hands together in building a water sector that will truly serve Lagosians.
According to the, Head, public affairs of the agency, Junaid Abibat, stated that the new Executive Secretary's vision is clear with its strategic direction, which is mainly to position Lagos State as a model for water regulatory in Nigeria and across Africa.
While describing the challenges before the Commission as significant, the new helsman said lthey are not insurmountable
" But this can only become a reality with unity of purpose, courage and determination among the staff", she said
She maintained that water is not a commodity, but it is a public good, a driver of health, productivity and sustainable growth.
Mrs Adeyemo further noted that the regulation of thie sector is, therefore, central to the prosperity of Lagos State and the well-being of the citizenry.
According to her, the Commission's mandate and commitment is to ensure that water service delivery in the state is safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of Dr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's Administration.
She stated further, "As I take up this role, i reaffirm my commitment to strengthen regulatory frameworks, to guarantee transparency, accountability and compliance across the sector, in promoting innovation and efficiency in water service delivery, leveraging technology and modern practices and ensuring equity and inclusiveness, so that every household, community and businesses have access to quality services and building institutional capacity through a continuous training and professional development of our staff".
She also reminded staff that they are the custodians of the Commissions' mandate.
She said, " I urge you to embrace this new chapter with renewed vigor and dedication. And together we will cultivate a culture of excellence, discipline and service."
She expressed her profound gratitude to assume her new role at LASWARCO and at the same time recognized the weight of the assignment and the trust the people repose in her to safeguard one of the most critical resources for human survival and socio-economic development which is the water
