The attention of the Lagos State Safety Commission has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media in which one Mariam Bunmi claims to be a staff of the Commission and is alleged to have collected a bribe from unsuspecting members of the public in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Okoh Adewunmi, Director, Public Affairs, the Commission categorically dissociated itself from the individual and her alleged actions.
“We wish to state unequivocally that the said Mariam Bunmi is NOT and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission. She is unknown to the Commission in any capacity,” the statement read.
Mrs. Okoh reaffirmed that the Commission’s core mandate is to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State, and that it operates a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption, extortion, and all forms of unethical conduct.
She therefore urged members of the public to disregard the claims made in the viral video and remain vigilant against impostors posing as officials of the Commission.
Furthermore, the Commission advised media practitioners — including the online platform Lagos Reporters, which circulated the said video — to exercise due diligence by verifying information and confirming official identities before publication.
For clarification or verification, the public is reminded not to make any form of payment to individuals claiming to represent the Lagos State Safety Commission. Anyone caught engaging in such fraudulent acts should be promptly reported or apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities through the Commission’s official channels.
