President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her 66th birthday, describing the First Lady as his “truest friend and confidante” and acknowledging her steadfast support throughout their decades together.

President Tinubu, in a birthday message issued on Monday, reflected on his years with the First Lady, highlighting her patience, courage, compassion and unwavering support through different phases of their family and public lives.

The President said that despite the challenges and demands that accompanied years of public service and political life, Oluremi had remained a dependable source of counsel, comfort and strength.

In an emotional tribute, Tinubu said: “If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained at home with you.”

The President also acknowledged his wife’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian and social causes, particularly initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society.

He noted her interventions and advocacy for young people, widows, elderly citizens and women farmers, as well as efforts directed at people affected by tuberculosis and other illnesses.

Tinubu also recalled the New Era Foundation, which was associated with Oluremi during their years in Lagos, and her current activities under the Renewed Hope Initiative as First Lady of Nigeria.

From Lagos First Lady to Nigeria’s First Lady

Oluremi Tinubu’s public service career predates her emergence as Nigeria’s First Lady.

She served as First Lady of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007 during her husband’s tenure as governor. She subsequently ventured into elective politics, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2023.

Following President Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, 2023, she assumed the role of First Lady of Nigeria and has since been associated with programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative, with interventions spanning education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and support for vulnerable Nigerians.

Her 66th birthday has consequently drawn attention to her various roles in public life, from First Lady of Lagos State to senator and, now, First Lady of Nigeria.

Concluding his tribute, President Tinubu prayed for his wife’s continued good health, happiness and many more years.

“Happy 66th birthday, my darling Oluremi,” the President wrote.
