— Christian Affairs Directorate holds prayer programme for Tinubu, Hamzat ahead of 2027 elections

The Lagos State Directorate of Christian Affairs of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors has inaugurated grassroots coordinators across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state, as part of efforts to deepen community engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration took place during a prayer programme organised by the directorate for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
The event brought together Christian leaders, members of the organisation and grassroots representatives, with speakers emphasising the role of community participation, leadership and service in the political process.
Speaking at the gathering, the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, said political participation should not be left to a select few, stressing that the primary responsibility of leadership was the welfare of the people.
Sonayon-James said the involvement of Christian leaders in politics was important, citing the biblical teaching that people rejoice when righteous individuals occupy positions of leadership.
She described Hamzat as a man of integrity and a community-oriented leader, while commending the Christian community for supporting the mobilisation initiative.
The deputy governorship candidate urged parents to encourage their children and young people to participate actively in the political process, adding that the concerns of the younger generation should receive attention in governance.
She also called for support for efforts to address youth-related challenges, noting that the Federal Government under President Tinubu had responded to some of the issues raised by young Nigerians.
Sonayon-James said the policies of the incoming administration should benefit all residents, urging the people to support the political process.
The Lagos State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Hon. Tayo Akinmade Ayinde, charged the newly inaugurated coordinators to understand the peculiarities of their communities and work towards promoting unity.
Ayinde, who described leadership as service, said the prayer gathering was organised to seek divine guidance for the nation's leaders and encourage members of the organisation to contribute to the development of their respective communities.
He urged the coordinators to bring people together, resolve divisions and strengthen relationships at the grassroots.
According to him, the programme was both a prayer and mobilisation gathering, designed to take the message of the Renewed Hope agenda to churches and communities across Lagos State.
Ayinde also called on the Christian community to remain actively engaged in the political process, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilisation and community participation.
In his remarks, the Director of the Directorate of Christian Affairs, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rev. Dr. Sam Ogedengbe, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the leadership of the organisation and other party leaders for their support.
Ogedengbe said the support had enabled the directorate to mobilise members of the Christian community across Lagos and organise prayer walks, outreaches and sensitisation programmes in churches and communities.
He said the inauguration of grassroots coordinators, whom he described as the directorate's “foot soldiers”, would enable the organisation to extend its activities deeper into local communities.
The director said the directorate was supporting President Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, citing policies and programmes including fuel subsidy removal, exchange-rate reforms, student loans, compressed natural gas (CNG) initiatives, local government autonomy and infrastructure development.
Ogedengbe said, in his assessment, the administration was implementing the Renewed Hope agenda and urged Christians and other Nigerians to continue praying and working for the country.
On Lagos State, he said the directorate was also supporting Hamzat's governorship bid, describing him as a leader capable of sustaining the state's development.
Ogedengbe appealed for campaign vehicles to support the activities of the Directorate of Christian Affairs, saying that, where vehicles could not be provided for all 20 local governments, at least three should be allocated to each senatorial district.
He said the directorate would continue to engage churches and communities as part of its mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
