Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to go after those responsible for the vandalisation of the Festac-Alakija Bridge, describing the incident as barbaric, criminal and unacceptable.

The Governor’s position was contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who said the State Government would not tolerate acts capable of undermining critical public infrastructure.

“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu said.

According to the Governor, officials of the Lagos State Office of Infrastructure had inspected the bridge following the incident and confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.

He disclosed that remedial work would be carried out immediately to protect the affected columns and ensure the continued safety and functionality of the bridge.

“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu described the vandalisation as a “horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident,” warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” the Governor warned.

The Governor stressed that Lagos had no place for barbarism, vandalism or acts of violence against critical infrastructure and other public facilities.

He therefore urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and support the government by protecting public infrastructure and reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate security authorities.

“Lagos has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the State’s infrastructure investments, while urging residents to take ownership of public facilities and help prevent their destruction by vandals.
