Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for stronger collaboration among government, security agencies, communities and residents to safeguard lives and property and sustain peace across the state.

Sanwo-Olu made the call at the 13th Summit of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS), held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Lagos. The summit was themed: “Security: Sanctity of Lives, Safety of Property and Creating a New Norm in Lagos State.”

Represented at the event by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Governor described security as fundamental to the development and prosperity of Lagos, stressing that a secure environment gives businesses confidence to invest, enables families to live peacefully and provides communities with the stability to thrive.

He congratulated members of ALARHOSPS on the summit and commended the retired senior public servants for their contributions to the development and administration of the state.

Sanwo-Olu said retirement from public office should not mean retirement from service to society, noting that Lagos continued to benefit from the experience, wisdom and institutional memory of retired senior public servants.

He said his administration had continued to strengthen the state’s security architecture through sustained support for the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency and other security institutions.

According to him, investments in training, technology, intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration had enhanced the capacity of security agencies to prevent and respond to emerging security threats.

The Governor, however, stressed that government and security agencies could not achieve lasting security without the active participation of residents and other stakeholders.

He urged communities, traditional institutions, residents, security agencies and government to embrace a culture of shared responsibility by working together to prevent crime, strengthen intelligence sharing and protect lives and property.

Sanwo-Olu also challenged the retired senior public servants to deploy their wealth of experience towards developing practical recommendations that could improve crime prevention, community participation, emergency response and public confidence.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, described the protection of lives and property as a fundamental responsibility of government and a critical foundation for sustainable development, economic prosperity, social stability and public confidence.

Agoro commended ALARHOSPS for sustaining its annual summit as a platform for intellectual discourse and policy engagement, expressing optimism that its deliberations would contribute to building a safer and more resilient Lagos.

Earlier, the President of ALARHOSPS, Otunba Nurudeen Ojora-Adejiyan, said the summit was a “call to conscience,” stressing that collective commitment was required to secure lives and property in Lagos.

He said the experience and institutional knowledge of retired senior public servants could contribute significantly to policy formulation and sustainable solutions to the state’s security challenges.
