One year after ascending the throne, the Olu of Oke-Aro, Oba Olayiwola Alani Ṣodipo, says his community has been transformed from a notorious crime hotspot into a peaceful and fast-developing town.
Speaking during activities marking his first coronation anniversary today, the monarch said concerted security measures and government intervention have restored normalcy to the Ogun community.
Oba Ṣodipo recalled that before his reign, criminal gangs made parts of Oke-Aro unsafe, with residents and even security operatives avoiding some areas.
"I convened a security meeting involving indigenes and non-indigenes and made it clear that anyone found on the wrong side of the law would face the full weight of justice. Since then, peace has gradually returned," he told journalists at his palace.
The traditional ruler credited the turnaround to community collaboration and support from the Ogun State Government.
He noted that ongoing road construction linking Oke-Aro with neighboring towns is expected to boost trade, transportation and investment.
For years, the community lacked a police station, forcing residents to travel to Agbado Crossing for police assistance. Oba Ṣodipo said the situation changed following the intervention of Hon. Fola Salami, who supported the establishment of a station in the town.
Looking ahead, the monarch said plans are underway to build a modern market to serve as a commercial hub. He also appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to complete an abandoned government hospital project in the area, warning that the facility could become a hideout for criminals if left to deteriorate.
"Residents can now move freely without fear. The criminal elements that once terrorised us have been driven away," he said.
Oba Ṣodipo commended the governor, Commissioner Oladunjoye Hamzat, Hon. Fola Salami, Hon. Isiaka, and Ifo LGA Chairman Hon. Idris Kushimo for their contributions to the town’s development.
He invited residents and indigenes home and abroad to the grand finale of the anniversary celebrations scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, describing it as a platform to promote culture, unity and further development.
