The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has commended the leadership of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for its commitment to grassroots governance, accountability, and peaceful community development following an oversight visit to the council.
The oversight exercise, conducted on Friday, June 26, 2026, was aimed at assessing the quality of governance and service delivery at the grassroots, evaluating the security situation within the council area, and ensuring that public funds are being judiciously utilized for approved projects and programmes.
The delegation was led into the council by the member representing Apapa Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Musibau Aina Lawal.
Other members of the delegation included the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon; Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe; Hon. Surajudeen Tijani, a member of the House Committee on Local Government, alongside other committee members.
The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale, who warmly received the lawmakers, led them through various administrative offices, ongoing infrastructure projects, and social intervention programmes undertaken by the council.
As part of the exercise, the committee held interactive sessions with the council's executive officials, legislators, and management staff to evaluate transparency, fiscal discipline, and the level of collaboration among the executive, legislative, and administrative arms of the council.
The lawmakers also reviewed the council's security architecture and community engagement initiatives designed to promote peace and improve residents' welfare.
At the end of the visit, the Committee commended the council for maintaining a peaceful environment and implementing initiatives that have strengthened grassroots governance.
The delegation also emphasized the importance of sustaining collaboration with the Lagos State Government to further improve service delivery, accountability, and development in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
Responding on behalf of the council, Hon. Jimoh Olawale expressed appreciation to the oversight committee for what he described as a thorough and constructive assessment.
"We appreciate the committee's diligence, fatherly advice, and the constructive manner in which the oversight exercise was conducted. The observations and recommendations made during the visit will be taken seriously as we continue to improve our operations and deliver quality service to the people of Apapa-Iganmu," he said.
The council also expressed its readiness to implement any recommendations arising from the oversight exercise as part of its commitment to strengthening governance, transparency, and effective service delivery at the grassroots.
