Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday congratulated workers across the state and Nigeria on the 2026 Workers’ Day, describing them as the engine room of governance and development.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor said May Day offers not only an opportunity to celebrate workers but also a moment for reflection on policies that promote their welfare and productivity.
Oborevwori commended workers in both the public and private sectors—including civil servants, teachers, healthcare personnel, artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs—for their contributions to the socio-economic growth of the state.
“I join Deltans and Nigerians in celebrating our diligent and resilient workforce. You remain the backbone of our development, and I salute your commitment and sacrifices,” he said.
The governor highlighted achievements recorded under his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, noting that the government had prioritised prompt payment of salaries and pensions, cleared pension arrears, and embarked on recruitment in the health sector. He added that capacity-building programmes had also been introduced to enhance efficiency and productivity in the workforce.
He further listed improvements in working conditions, including the upgrade of public infrastructure, revitalisation of healthcare facilities, and renovation of schools to create a more conducive environment for service delivery.
According to him, targeted entrepreneurship initiatives have provided support for artisans and small-scale businesses, while ongoing investments in roads, bridges and markets are aimed at boosting economic activities and easing transportation challenges.
Oborevwori also said his administration was strengthening agricultural programmes to increase food production, enhance food security and stabilise prices across the state.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and inclusive governance, the governor said his administration would continue to ensure that public resources are managed in the interest of all citizens.
He urged workers to remain committed to their duties, uphold professionalism, and work collectively towards the sustained growth and development of Delta State.
