The Lagos State Government has intensified its public procurement reforms, processing 6,590 approval requests through its electronic procurement platform as part of a broader drive to deepen transparency, accountability and efficiency in government transactions.
Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing commemorating the seventh year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa.
Oluyomi said the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency has continued to expand the state’s e-procurement architecture to strengthen contract administration and eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks traditionally associated with public procurement processes.
According to figures presented at the briefing, the Agency processed 6,590 approval requests within the review period while extending the electronic procurement platform to an additional 10 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) between 2025 and 2026, bringing the total number of participating MDAs to 169.
The Commissioner explained that the digital procurement initiative has transformed procurement operations across government institutions through electronic publishing, e-tendering, e-bidding, e-evaluation and electronic notification of contract awards.
He noted that the initiative, which was initially piloted in strategic ministries including Education, Health and Works & Infrastructure, has now gained wider acceptance across the Lagos public service as part of the state government’s digital governance reforms.
To ensure seamless implementation, the government equipped procurement officers across MDAs with Information and Communication Technology tools such as laptops, scanners and printers to support efficient operation of the platform.
The Agency further stated that the digitisation of contractor registration and renewal processes has improved accessibility and reduced delays, enabling contractors and service providers to complete applications remotely without the need for physical visits to government offices.
Statistics released during the briefing showed that 1,431 goods providers and 1,394 works contractors were registered successfully within the period under review.
The Agency added that, as the regulatory authority overseeing public procurement in Lagos State, it continues to process approval instruments for MDAs, Local Governments, Local Council Development Areas and other public institutions.
It stressed that critical procurement instruments, including the Certificate of Compliance and Certificate of No Objection, remain mandatory requirements for payment authorisation by the State Treasury, noting that contractors and service providers cannot receive payment for executed projects without the necessary approvals.
Industry observers say the expansion of the e-procurement system is expected to further strengthen fiscal discipline, reduce procurement delays and improve value-for-money in public projects as Lagos sustains its aggressive digital transformation agenda across sectors.
