Professional colleagues, friends, and family gathered at the Ikorodu Club on Sunday, April 19, 2026, to honor the life and legacy of Hajia Bintu-Fatimoh Gbojubola Arike, who passed away at the age of 87.
The event, which served as the Final Burial and 8-Day Fidau Prayer, was held in honor of the mother of Hajia Aisha Cole, the Assistant National Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and a staff member of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The solemn yet celebratory event drew a significant presence from the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), reflecting the high esteem in which Hajia Aisha Cole and her family are held within the media industry.
Leaders in the media, including Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, Deputy National President of the NUJ, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman, NUJ Lagos Council and Hajia Hadiza Ifeyinwa Omowole, Director of Lagos Operations, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), led a large contingent of journalists to the event.
Hajia Bintu-Fatimoh Gbojubola Arike, described as a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, returned to her Lord on Monday, April 13, 2026, and was buried immediately in accordance with Islamic rites.
During the Fidau service, prayers were offered for the repose of her soul, with clerics and guests petitioning for her transition to Al-Jannah Firdaus. The event also highlighted the strength of the community, as colleagues from the News Agency of Nigeria and various press unions stood in solidarity with Hajia Aisha Cole during this period of bereavement.
The family expressed their profound gratitude to the guests who traveled to Ikorodu to pay their final respects and support the bereaved family.
