The Lagos State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, arresting 118 suspects and recovering firearms, illicit drugs, and other dangerous items during operations across the state in April 2026.
Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing, where he outlined the Command’s achievements for the month under review.
He said the successes were driven by proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and rapid response strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
According to him, items recovered during the operations include 11 locally fabricated Beretta pistols, one English-made Beretta pistol, two dane guns, nine telecom power batteries, 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, cutlasses, charms, and other incriminating materials.
The police boss noted that the Command also intensified its crackdown on street crime, cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and vandalism, leading to multiple arrests across different parts of the state.
Among the major operations was a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts in Ilasan, Lekki, and Maroko, where 58 suspects linked to traffic robbery, phone snatching, and harassment of residents were apprehended.
In a separate operation in Ikorodu, operatives arrested two suspected kidnappers identified as Elijah Emmanuel and Tony Ekwane, who are alleged to be involved in the abduction and killing of a 17-year-old victim. Investigations further linked the suspects to an earlier kidnapping incident in 2025.
The Command also dismantled a telecom vandalism syndicate following intelligence reports from Globacom, leading to the arrest of three suspects and recovery of stolen power batteries.
Efforts to curb cult-related violence yielded results in Iwaya, Lagos Island, Ajao Estate, and Festac, where several suspected cultists were arrested during targeted operations. Police said many of the suspects are linked to notorious confraternities involved in violent clashes and criminal activities.
In another development, operatives intercepted suspected gun runners attempting to sell a Beretta pistol, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend their accomplice believed to be based in northern Nigeria.
The Command further reported the arrest of robbery suspects in different parts of the state, including a suspect apprehended on Anthony Bridge while attempting to rob a commuter.
Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime and ensuring public safety, noting that all suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain peace, safety, and public confidence in policing,” he said.
