The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex political decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has adopted Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship aspirant for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached on Tuesday at a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, a development seen as a significant consolidation of political support within the ruling party in the state.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, GAC Leader, Tajudeen Olusi, expressed strong confidence in Hamzat’s leadership credentials, describing him as capable of sustaining and expanding the developmental strides recorded by successive administrations in Lagos.
Olusi further disclosed that members of the council had resolved to collectively purchase the APC nomination and expression of interest forms for the deputy governor, valued at ₦50 million, as a demonstration of their unanimous backing.
In a related development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed that the Lagos APC had also procured the presidential nomination form for Bola Tinubu, citing confidence in his administration’s “Renewed Hope” reform agenda.
The endorsement places Hamzat in a commanding position within the APC as political realignments and consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
