Youths from the Lagos West Senatorial District have intensified calls for the zoning of the state’s governorship ticket to the division ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that they would accept nothing short of producing the next governor.
The demand, which echoes a similar position earlier canvassed by traditional rulers and political leaders in the district, signals growing momentum behind the agitation for a power shift within Lagos State.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Amuwo-Odofin, Convener of APC Youths in Lagos West, Prince Seyon Adeyemi Akran, described the movement as historic, noting that young people across the division are united and resolute in their demand.
According to him, the youths are fully aligned with the position already adopted by traditional institutions and key stakeholders, stressing that the time has come for Lagos West to produce the state’s next governor.
Akran further pledged overwhelming electoral support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s eventual governorship candidate, assuring that the youth population in the district would deliver no less than 95 per cent of votes in the 2027 elections.
He noted that perceptions about Badagry and the wider Lagos West axis are rapidly changing, emphasising that the area has produced distinguished individuals excelling across various sectors.
“Gone are the days when Badagry is relegated. Today, we have competent and accomplished sons and daughters contributing meaningfully to the growth of Lagos State and Nigeria,” he said.
Also speaking, youth leader Adewale Talabi disclosed that more than 80 per cent of eligible youths in Badagry have obtained their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), positioning the district as a decisive bloc in the forthcoming elections.
Talabi, however, lamented what he described as years of neglect of the Lagos West Senatorial District, attributing it to inadequate socio-economic development across the area.
In his remarks, another stakeholder, Aladeotan David, highlighted Badagry’s rich cultural heritage and vast tourism potential, describing the division as strategically important due to its proximity to neighbouring countries.
He expressed confidence that a Lagos West indigene, particularly Mr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, would unlock the area’s economic and tourism prospects if given the mandate.
David added that Ajose has consistently demonstrated commitment to community development and party support, making him a credible figure in the ongoing agitation for the governorship seat.
The renewed call by Lagos West youths is expected to further shape political permutations in the state as stakeholders begin early alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
