Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday inaugurated 20 Local Government Coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a public engagement and community sensitisation initiative aimed at deepening awareness of the Federal Government’s policies and achievements at the grassroots.
At the ceremony held at the 10 Degrees Event Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, the governor administered the Oath of Allegiance to the coordinators and announced that each would be provided with a vehicle to enhance mobility and facilitate effective discharge of their responsibilities across the state’s 20 local government areas.
Sanwo-Olu described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as a structured civic engagement platform designed to stimulate conversations around the promises made by the present administration and the progress recorded so far. He emphasised that the initiative was not a political campaign but a deliberate effort to bridge the information gap between government and citizens.
“This is not a campaign rally. This is an activation of what we believe in and a platform to engage Nigerians on what the President has promised and what he is delivering,” the governor said.
According to him, the coordinators are expected to move from neighbourhood to neighbourhood and community to community to enlighten residents on government programmes and reforms, including infrastructural development across the six geopolitical zones, economic restructuring efforts, debt reduction strategies, improved workers’ welfare and other key interventions.
He added that the initiative would strengthen public understanding of the administration’s commitment to building a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Lagos State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tayo Ayinde, described the appointment as a responsibility rather than an honorary position. He charged the coordinators to act as a bridge between government and the people by effectively communicating policies while also relaying feedback from communities.
Ayinde said the core mandate of the movement includes strengthening citizen engagement, promoting awareness of governmental achievements and providing a feedback mechanism through which citizens’ concerns, suggestions and aspirations can be channelled for policy consideration.
He urged the coordinators to discharge their duties with diligence, clarity and integrity, noting that Lagos, as a pacesetter in governance and political organisation, must continue to lead by example in grassroots mobilisation and public enlightenment.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated officials, Japheth Odesanya, Coordinator for Ikorodu Local Government, expressed appreciation to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged that the coordinators would carry out their responsibilities faithfully and ensure effective outreach across all communities.
“We will work collaboratively to guarantee meaningful engagement and ensure that feedback from the grassroots informs policy direction,” Odesanya said.
Goodwill messages were delivered by coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors from Osun and Ondo states, who commended the Lagos State Government for supporting the initiative. They noted that the programme had continued to foster constructive dialogue and broaden participation in the national movement.
The event attracted traditional rulers, market leaders, community stakeholders, party leaders and representatives of socio-cultural groups.
The inaugurated coordinators include Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi (Agege), Saheed Ojora (Ajeromi-Ifelodun), Kunle Olowopejo (Alimosho), Junaid Oyewole (Amuwo-Odofin), Femi Otunla (Apapa), Layode Olanrewaju (Badagry), Princess Surah Animashaun (Epe), Fuad Lawal (Eti-Osa), Kazeem Adewale (Ibeju-Lekki), Adeleye Olurotimi (Ifako-Ijaiye), Nurudeen Bashiru (Ikeja), Japheth Odesanya (Ikorodu), Salami Kolawole (Kosofe), Rasheed Giwa (Lagos Island), Adebayo Adefuye (Lagos Mainland), Emmanuel Bamigboye (Mushin), Tayo Oyefolu (Ojo), Kayode Tinubu (Oshodi-Isolo), Bowale Sosimi (Somolu) and Olajide Lawal (Surulere).
