The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has called on youth corps members deployed to the education sector to commit themselves to nurturing students and equipping them with the tools needed to achieve their dreams.
The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, made the call during his keynote address at the “Induction and Training of Y2025 Corps Members on Pedagogy of Education,” held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium.
Describing the programme as more than a routine training exercise, Ogunlende said it marked the beginning of a significant responsibility for the corps members.
“Today marks not just the beginning of a training exercise, but the commencement of a noble journey one that places you at the heart of shaping minds, building character and strengthening the future of our dear state and nation,” he said.
The commissioner emphasised that effective teaching goes beyond delivering lessons.
According to him, pedagogy involves understanding how students learn, embracing classroom diversity, adopting learner-centred approaches and applying modern instructional strategies that stimulate curiosity and critical thinking.
He explained that the training was designed to equip participants with classroom management skills, curriculum delivery techniques, ethical and professional standards, child protection principles, continuous assessment methods and the integration of digital tools into teaching and learning.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, highlighted education as a central pillar of the state government’s THEMES+ Agenda.
She noted that the administration has prioritised innovative and inclusive strategies aimed at improving learning outcomes and preparing young people with the knowledge, skills and values required to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
According to her, the training programme is both timely and strategic, targeting not only improved academic performance but also the social, emotional and moral development of students to prepare them as responsible citizens and future leaders.
Resource persons at the event, Mr. Bolaji Olaleye, Mr. Oyenuga Adetomi, Mr. Ogundeyi Adewale, Mrs. Bolanle Alamu and Mr. Makinde Philips delivered sessions on e-learning and teaching methodologies, character development in formative years, updates on the school curriculum and the technological advantages of the EkoEXCEL initiative.
The induction forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen classroom delivery and enhance the quality of education across the state.
