Sanwo-Olu Supports Parents of Triplets, Quadruplets with N5m Grant

The Lagos State Government has disbursed ₦5 million in financial assistance to seven families blessed with multiple births, as part of its social inclusion drive aimed at cushioning the economic burden on vulnerable households.

The intervention, implemented through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to ensuring that all residents benefit from the dividends of good governance.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held on Monday at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, said the financial support was designed to ease the cost of caring for triplets and quadruplets, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.

Ogunlende noted that while the assistance might not fully cover the expenses incurred by the families, it reflected the government’s concern for the welfare of children and their parents, especially during the yuletide season.

“Children are treasures that must be cherished and properly nurtured. They require a solid foundation, which comes at a cost in terms of time and resources. The quality of investment we make in them today will determine the kind of adults they become tomorrow,” the commissioner said.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, described the initiative as a practical expression of the Governor’s social inclusion policy, stressing that the programme cuts across ethnic and religious lines.

She explained that the support scheme is not a one-off intervention, but an annual programme open to eligible residents, provided the children were born in Lagos State and the parents are residents of the state.

“You do not need to know anyone to benefit from this programme. It is transparent and accessible. As a ministry, we have a responsibility to support the proper care and development of our children, which informed the creation of the Child Development Department,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Uwaoma Teddy Odili expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.

He also commended the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for the professionalism of its medical personnel, which, he said, ensured the safe delivery of his quadruplets.
