The Nigeria Coalition Group and the Yoruba Council Worldwide have held a solidarity protest in support of the Dangote Refinery and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The demonstration took place at the Lagos State House of Assembly, where the protesters called for stronger government backing for the Dangote Refinery and immediate policy implementation to protect local refining.
Speaking during the protest, the leader of both groups, Aare Oladotun Hassan, urged the Federal Government to enforce a 15% import duty tariff and to implement a total ban on the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
He also demanded that the government grant 100% crude oil exploration and supply allocation to the Dangote Refinery to enhance its operational efficiency and contribution to Nigeria’s energy security.
Hassan criticized the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by Comrade Festus Osifo, accusing the union of attempting to undermine the refinery through “premeditated orchestrations, deceitful narratives, and unfounded allegations.”
He further alleged that the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) is lobbying the government for an extension of importation waivers until the end of the first quarter of 2026 — a move he said would be detrimental to the refinery and Nigeria’s economic independence.
The protesters were received by Hon. Noheen Adam, who represents Ibeju-Lekki, and the Clerk of the House, on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. The lawmakers assured the group that their message would be delivered to the Speaker and that they would receive a response in due course.
Hassan emphasized that the coalition’s action was a show of solidarity for both the Dangote Refinery and President Tinubu’s administration, calling for sustained support of local industries as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s renewed hope and economic transformation agenda.
