The Lagos State Government, through the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, held an interactive session with retirees of the state public service on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja. The event was represented on behalf of Mr. Agoro by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola.
The session provided a platform for retirees to share their experiences, concerns, and suggestions regarding their post-service welfare and ongoing state initiatives. Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oyegbola emphasized the government’s recognition of retirees as invaluable contributors to the development of Lagos State. She highlighted the state’s commitment to ensuring timely payment of pensions and improved engagement with retirees through regular consultations and programs tailored to their needs.
“The government of Lagos State acknowledges the pivotal role our retirees have played in shaping this state. This interactive session is part of our continuous efforts to listen, engage, and address issues affecting our esteemed retirees,” she said.
The Head of Service also stated that the state government has established twenty Recreation and Wellness Centres across the state to enhance the quality of life for retirees.
Retirees in attendance appreciated the gesture, describing it as a welcome opportunity to communicate directly with the government. Several participants raised questions regarding pension administration, healthcare benefits, and opportunities for continued engagement in community and mentorship programs.
The interactive session concluded with assurances from the Head of Service, through Mrs. Oyegbola, that the state would continue to prioritize retirees’ welfare and strengthen mechanisms for effective communication and support.
The Lagos State Government affirmed that such engagements would be institutionalized as a regular practice to ensure retirees remain integral to the state’s social and developmental framework.
