NGO Targets Benue, Taraba IDP Camps with Free Medical Outreach

A humanitarian organisation, Open Hands Amazing Charitable Organization Inc., has unveiled plans to deliver a week-long free medical outreach to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue and Taraba states, beginning October 30, 2025.

The intervention is expected to focus on vulnerable groups in the camps, including children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities—many of whom suffer limited access to medicines and healthcare services.

Founder of the NGO, Dr. Magdalene Agada, said the initiative was conceived as a direct response to the pressing health challenges confronting displaced populations in the two states.

 “We are reaching out to IDP camps where we see extreme vulnerability—lack of access to medicines for children, babies, women, the disabled, and the elderly in forgotten communities across Nigeria,” she explained.

Dr. Agada emphasised that her motivation was driven by compassion and humanitarian duty rather than material or political considerations.

“I’m not doing this because I’m rich or seeking any position, but out of pure humanistic conviction. Lives are like candles in the wind, and all is vanity upon vanities,” she said.

In recent years, Open Hands Amazing Charitable Organization Inc. has supported healthcare delivery by donating vital medical equipment to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and state ministries of health.

The founder appealed for broader partnerships to scale up the outreach.

“We call for support from individuals, organisations, and government institutions. Together, we can sustain this mission of bringing healthcare to those who need it most,” Dr. Agada noted.

She added that lack of access to essential medicines continues to put vulnerable communities at risk, stressing the need for transformative collaborations to improve health outcomes and restore hope among displaced populations.
