NEW ERA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, SURULERE, ‘85 SET TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY

New Era Girls the world in Secondary School, Suruere, is preparing to host its much-anticipated 40th Reunion Anniversary this October. The three-day celebration, with the theme “A Celebration of Legacy and Giving Back,” is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, October 22nd, to Friday, October 24th, 2025, and will bring together alumni and students for a series of impactfule Planning Committee,  Olubukola Ogunleye, promises to be both emotionally resonant and strategically meaningful.Delivering a preview of the event, Ogunleye expressed deep excitement and pride in the upcoming celebration. “This reunion is not just about looking back, it’s about reconnecting with our roots, celebrating our shared journey, and giving back to the school that shaped us,” she remarked.The event will kick off with a Girls’ Empowerment Seminar for current students aged 10 to 17, focusing on themes such as safety, self-worth, and confidence.

 The sessions will be led by alumni and tailored to different age groups, offering mentorship and inspiration to the next generation of New Era girls.Attendees will be dressed in vibrant Adire uniforms, symbolising unity and cultural pride. A key highlight of the first day will be the official handover of the newly refurbished Physics Laboratory, a gift from the alumni to support academic excellence. Roselyn Akpene, Principal of the Junior Secondary School, who is also the president of the ’85 set, will receive the donation on behalf of the school.The day will also feature a Community Impact and Recognition segment, including the distribution of stationery to students and awards to outstanding staff members. 

These gestures reflect the alumni’s commitment to uplifting the school community and honouring those who continue to serve with distinction.The School Hall will host a celebratory gathering filled with music, dance, and shared meals, offering alumni a chance to relive cherished memories and create new ones.Thursday, October 23rd, has been designated as a Free Day, allowing attendees to relax, bond, and engage in informal catch-ups, further strengthening the ties that bind generations of New Era women.

The reunion will culminate on Friday evening with a glamorous Gala Night. Attendees are encouraged to arrive in All White or Glam in Oldies attire, adding elegance and nostalgia to the evening. The Gala will feature a red carpet and photo session, cultural displays, comedy, music, and dance, as well as reunion reflections, award presentations, and the ceremonial cutting of the 40th reunion cake. Dinner and networking will round off the evening.The event is expected to host the Management of New Era Girls Secondary School, members of the 40th Reunion Anniversary Committee, alumni from various graduating sets, and current students and staff. As October approaches, the excitement continues to build. The 40th Reunion Anniversary stands as a powerful reminder of the school’s legacy and the transformative power of education, community, and shared purpose.
