Otunba Wemimo Onajobi Emerges New Governor, 1993 Set of Baptist Secondary School, Oke-Ado, Ibadan

As part of the celebrations marking the 45th Founder’s Day Anniversary of Baptist Secondary School, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the 1993 Set of the school’s Old Students Association has elected Otunba Wemimo Onajobi as its new Governor.

The well-attended ceremony, which held at the Alumni Hall of the school along Liberty Road, drew alumni from across the country and the diaspora. It featured tributes, awards, and leadership transitions designed to honour the institution’s heritage and propel it toward a stronger future.

In his acceptance speech, Otunba Onajobi expressed deep humility and gratitude for the opportunity to lead his set. Reflecting on a previous attempt at the position two years ago, he described the experience as a learning journey that strengthened his resolve and affection for the association.

“Today, by the grace of God and the will of this great body, I accept the responsibility to serve— not only with the noise of a contest but with the quiet power of trust,” he said.

He extended heartfelt appreciation to his supporters, including the Lagos and Abuja chapters, as well as the association’s diaspora body, promising inclusive leadership and collaboration on impactful projects. Onajobi also acknowledged the immediate past Governor, Hon. Ololade, and the outgoing executive, praising their sacrifices and dedication.

“This journey has always been about service, about the love we share for our noble association, and about the vision we carry for a stronger, more united, and more progressive body,” he affirmed.

He pledged to serve with integrity, openness, and humility, emphasizing that while he may not have all the answers, his leadership will prioritize the collective interest of the alumni body.

Themed “Embracing Our Founders’ Vision and Legacy,” the 45th Anniversary celebration paid tribute to the vision of the school’s founding fathers and its enduring legacy of academic excellence, moral discipline, and community impact.

The event also featured remarks from the National President of NABSSOS, Engr. Akinola Olutola, who described the milestone as a time to “reflect on the values that shaped us and recommit ourselves to the upliftment of our great alma mater.”

Key members of the planning committee included Engr. Oluseun Oni (National Secretary), Mr. Sunday Fowobaje (USA-based Chairman of the Planning Committee), and Mr. Dimeji Popoola (Anniversary Coordinator).

Founded in 1980, Baptist Secondary School, Oke-Ado has produced generations of leaders in various spheres of life. The anniversary was a symbolic convergence of heritage, pride, and aspirations for the future.

Otunba Onajobi closed his remarks with a rallying call:

> “Together, let us dream bigger, work harder, and achieve more. Let us build on the legacy of those who came before us and set a new standard for those who will come after.”

The event left attendees inspired, united, and eager to contribute to the continued progress of the institution and its alumni community.
