In a bold move to strengthen food security and stabilize agricultural markets, the Lagos State Government is set to unveil its “Produce for Lagos” programme — a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s food supply chain through bulk aggregation of farm produce.
Scheduled for launch on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, the initiative is a major milestone under the state’s broader Agriculture and Food Systems Strategy, and is designed to directly coordinate large volumes of produce from smallholder farmers across the country.
By streamlining the food aggregation process, the Produce for Lagos programme will significantly reduce post-harvest losses, improve price stability, and ensure consistent access to affordable, fresh food for Lagos residents.
“Feeding the Nation, one harvest at a time” — that is the guiding vision of the programme, which aims to connect rural producers with urban markets in a more efficient and transparent manner.
At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to empowering local farmers, boosting their incomes through guaranteed off-take, while simultaneously improving food logistics, reducing wastage, and protecting consumers from seasonal price shocks.
The launch event is expected to attract key stakeholders in agriculture, logistics, food processing, and trade, as well as policymakers, development partners, and farmer cooperatives from across Nigeria.
With Lagos State being Nigeria’s most populous and commercially vibrant city, the Produce for Lagos programme is set to serve as a blueprint for subnational food system transformation, showcasing how government-led coordination can drive efficiency, sustainability, and resilience in agricultural markets.
