Initiative set to reshape Nigeria’s agricultural logistics and boost food security debuts in four days' time

With just four days to go, anticipation is building among producers, agri-tech companies, cooperative societies, transport unions, and development partners who have been invited to participate in the launch event and ongoing engagements towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.

 All roads lead to the  formal launch of its ambitious ‘Produce for Lagos’ Programme, slated for Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Lagos State Government in strategic partnership with the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSIC), aims to build a more connected, efficient, and inclusive food system by strengthening ties between producers, processors, and distributors across the country.

Described by stakeholders as a “model of modern agri-logistics,” the Produce for Lagos Programme is designed to eliminate key barriers in food supply chains—such as post-harvest losses, poor market access, and high transportation costs—by fostering robust collaboration between government, private sector operators, and farmers nationwide.

According to the organisers, the programme will not only enhance food availability in Lagos—the country’s largest consumer market—but will also unlock economic opportunities for agricultural producers from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

“This initiative is a bold, forward-looking response to the challenges of food distribution and security,” said a senior official involved in the project. “We are building a system that ensures farmers can get their produce to market efficiently, consumers have access to affordable food, and investors can find viable opportunities in the agri-business value chain.”

By integrating cold-chain logistics, aggregation hubs, and data-driven market coordination, the programme seeks to reduce food waste, boost local economies, and stabilise prices for essential commodities. The broader vision is to create a sustainable food ecosystem that goes beyond Lagos, with ripple effects throughout the nation.

The Produce for Lagos Programme underscores Lagos State’s commitment to leading innovation in food systems and its readiness to partner across borders to guarantee food security for the future.
