The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off the Monterosa Construction site following a tragic crane accident that occurred at 7:30 a.m. today.
Preliminary investigations by Safety Commission officials, who responded promptly to the incident, revealed that the crane operator, Mr. Rotimi Adesina, sustained fatal injuries during the operation. He was rushed to Evercare Hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where he was later pronounced dead.
At the time of the accident, the site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer was attending to the injured operator and was unavailable for immediate questioning.
The Project Manager, Mr. Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Mr. Ndidi Uchechukwu, were engaged by the Safety Commission for documentation concerning the crane operations. They disclosed that all relevant documents are kept at the company’s head office.
The company has been instructed to submit all necessary documentation regarding the crane and the overall project for a thorough review by the Commission.
The Director General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, directed the immediate sealing of the construction site and issued an abatement notice to remove any ongoing hazards and safeguard the lives of all workers on-site.
"The safety of lives is paramount," Mojola emphasized. "Under no circumstances should safety measures be compromised."
He further assured the public that updates would be provided as the investigation continues.
The Director General also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to preventing the recurrence of such tragic incidents through strict enforcement of safety regulations.
