It was a colourful and spirit-filled gathering as dignitaries from across Nigeria joined Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to celebrate his 60th birthday with an outpouring of praises and heartfelt worship.
The thanksgiving event, themed “Rhymes of Worship with Àdúrà – Celebrating Babajide Sanwo-Olu at 60,” was held at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The venue was filled to capacity with the crème of society who came to honour the governor for his life of service, humility, and deep spirituality.
Governors Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) led the roll call of top political leaders present. Also in attendance were Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola; former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba; and former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Otunba Femi Pedro.
Other dignitaries included members of the Lagos State Executive Council, leaders of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the diplomatic corps, traditional and religious leaders, captains of industry, market leaders, media executives, and security agencies.
The atmosphere was electrified with several hours of praise and worship, led by renowned gospel artistes, creating a spiritual ambience that reflected the governor’s gratitude and devotion to God.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed deep appreciation to God and all who came to celebrate with him. He described his life journey as one defined by divine grace.
> “As I reflect on the past six decades, I am overwhelmed by the countless ways in which God has shown Himself faithful,” he said.
“Through seasons of triumph and trials, through moments of uncertainty and clarity, through the highs and lows of both public service and private life—God has been my firm anchor. He has covered me, guided me, equipped me, and, above all, He has kept me.
Sanwo-Olu also reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Lagos, pledging continued dedication to governance and inclusive development.
> “I must acknowledge the privilege of serving as the Governor of this extraordinary state. Lagos is not just a city—it is an idea, a pulse, a promise.
“Every day, I am reminded of the sacred duty I hold in serving its people. I thank God for the opportunity, and I rededicate myself—even at 60—to the cause of building a Lagos that works for all.”
The event was not only a celebration of age but a reaffirmation of purpose, faith, and leadership, as Governor Sanwo-Olu marked his diamond jubilee with thanksgiving, humility, and hope for the future.
