The Olopade Descendants of Ibadan gathered in a heartfelt family reunion on Saturday to honour the memory of their departed loved ones and strengthen familial bonds across generations. The solemn yet joyous event took place at the ancestral home located at E4/480, Pa Samuel Sunday Olopade's Compound, Aremo, Aladorin, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Presided over by the Mogaji (head) of the Olopade family, Barrister Abiodun Olumuyiwa Olopade, the gathering brought together sons and daughters, grandchildren and all family members of the extended Olopade lineage in an atmosphere of reflection, unity, and prayer.
The Mogaji led special prayers for all deceased members of the family, emphasizing the importance of legacy, love, and continued connection among descendants.
In his remarks, Barrister Olopade encouraged family members to uphold the values and traditions laid down by their forebears. “This reunion is not only to pay tribute to our ancestors, but also to remind ourselves of the need to stay united and support one another, regardless of distance or generation,” he said.
Highlights of the reunion included thanksgiving prayers by Christian, Islamic, and traditional prayers led by erudite cleric, Chief Imam and traditionalist.
The family also shared moments of silence in honour of the departed, the sharing of family history and stories, as well as a communal meal that fostered bonding and rekindled relationships.
Attendees expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it served as a vital reminder of the family's rich heritage and enduring legacy in Ibadanland.
The Olopade family, with roots deeply embedded in the fabric of Ibadan’s cultural and historical landscape, plans to make the reunion an annual tradition to preserve and celebrate its lineage.
