Lagos Island Residents Oppose Imposition of Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan by Oba of Lagos and Yeye Tinubu

In a strong appeal to forestall political unrest and potential state of anarchy, concerned residents and key stakeholders of Lagos Island Local Government (West) have voiced their opposition to the alleged imposition of Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan, a dropout with just secondary school certification, making her the least educationally qualified among the contestants. What's more, her niece was recently elected to the House of Assembly, raising concerns about nepotism and undue influence.

In a release signed by the representatives of the concerned citizens, Bola Dosunmu-Animashaun,  Mr. Supo Adedeji,  Mrs. Tawa Adigun,  Prince Tolu Falolu,  Prince Ishola Akisemoyin and  Princess Olabisi Lemomu-Savage, sad the residents argue that Taiwo Oyekan lacks the basic educational qualifications and communication skills necessary for effective leadership.

They contend that such imposition is an affront to the dignity and history of Lagos Island, widely recognized as the cradle of modern political civilization in Nigeria.

According to the signatories, any attempt to override the democratic will of the people by installing candidates deemed unfit will not only disrupt the peace but also undermine the credibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC). They warn that such actions may result in far-reaching political consequences for the party, the Oba of Lagos, and even the wife of the President, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The residents call for fairness, transparency, and merit-based leadership in the selection process, to protect the legacy and integrity of Lagos Island.
