The Senior Special Assistant to Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Student Affairs, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi has been accused of overseeing the brutal beating of a journalist from Ogun state, the publisher of Newsangleonline, Olajide Osoba.
The brutal beating of the journalist occurred yesterday immediately after the address of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in celebration of the Workers day at the June 12 cultural centre, Kuto in Abeokuta where the Journalist with his colleagues went to cover the assignment.
Adeyemi, who personally supervised the merciless beating of the Journalist at the cultural centre ordered his hatchet men armed with dangerous weapons to disperse the onlookers for them to have easy day during the beating.
The Governor's aide according to our findings revealed that he is fond of going around the state capital molesting and harassing innocent citizen with his men aimed at creating fear in the society all in the motive of studentship.
According to our source, the journalist, Olajide Osoba, who is presently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital was said to have gone into coma yesterday night after losing severe blood as a result of the several beatings with punches on his face and mouth, and his entire body.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun state council has issued a statement directing all media in the state to boycott all activities of National Association of Nigeria Students, (NANS), Ogun state chapter.
The union in the statement described the beating of the journalist as an assault on the union, saying that the clamp down on NANS activities in the state is the first step aimed at stemming the unwholesome behavior of the body.
Our further findings revealed that the victim had already reported the case of assault on him by Azeez Adeyemi and his boys at Ibara police station for the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to take urgent steps so that journalists in the state will not be the prey in the hands of NANS.
The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun should therefore act fast in the spirit of media - government relationship by calling Azeez Adeyemi to order so as not to strain the relationship between the government and the media in the state, and not to create bad name for the government.
