APC Unveils Chairmanship Candidates Ahead of July 12 LG Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the results of its chairmanship primaries across local government areas in Lagos State, setting the stage for the upcoming council elections slated for July 12, 2025.

Among the notable figures emerging from the primaries is Alhaji Tunde Azeez, widely known as Tunde Disco, who clinched the APC ticket for Agege Local Government Area. Azeez’s victory reaffirms his strong grassroots support and political clout within the community.

In Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Seyi Jakande, son of the late former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, secured the party’s endorsement. His emergence is being viewed as a continuation of the Jakande family’s enduring political legacy in the state.

Prominent APC stalwarts such as Odunmbaku and Hamzat will also return as chairmanship candidates, joining a list of new and returning contenders across the state’s local councils.

Jimoh Olawale – Apapa-Iganmu LCDA

Hasimi Lateef – Shomolu Local Government

Ladega Adedayo – Ikorodu Local Government

Akinsanya Lasisi – Igando-Ikotun LCDA

Akeem Dauda – Ikeja Local Government

Adebanjo Moyo – Onigbongbo LCDA

Bola Oladunjoye – Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA

Omo’Oba Adeola Adetoro – Eti-Osa Local Government

Alabi Amina – Iru-Victoria Island LCDA

Odunayo Daniel Olufemi – Itire-Ikate LCDA

The primaries, conducted under the supervision of the party’s electoral committee, were largely peaceful and well-attended, with party members turning out in large numbers to participate in the democratic process.

With the candidates now officially unveiled, the political tempo in Lagos State is expected to rise as aspirants commence campaigns and engage constituents. Key issues on the campaign trail are likely to include infrastructure development, youth empowerment, security, and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.

The July 12 elections are being closely watched, as they will serve as a litmus test for the APC’s continued dominance in Lagos politics and a measure of public confidence in its local governance strategy.
