Sanwo-Olu restates commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence, educational devt As Governor unveils State of the art facilities

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality education by commissioning multiple state-of-the-art school projects across the state.

On Wednesday, the governor inaugurated an ultra-modern block of classrooms, complete with a mini football pitch and a multi-purpose sports court, at Keme Balogun Junior/Senior College, Ibeshe, Ikorodu. Similar projects were also unveiled at Ajegunle Junior High School in Owode-Onirin, Kosofe, and Odogunyan Junior Grammar School in Ikorodu.

These initiatives mark the beginning of a broader effort to enhance public education, with 16 newly constructed and renovated school blocks facilitated by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) across the six education districts in Lagos. Among the benefitting institutions are Awori Junior College, Ojo; Euba Junior High School, Mushin; Ipara Junior College, Majiyagbe; and Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi. Others include St. Luke Junior Secondary School, Bariga; State Junior High School, Ibereko, Badagry; and Thogli Community Grammar School, Badagry.

Addressing a cheering crowd of students, parents, and residents, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to providing top-tier infrastructure and highly trained teachers to shape the next generation.

“Education is a critical pillar of our THEMES+ development agenda. It fuels economic growth, reduces inequality, and empowers individuals to break the cycle of poverty. By investing in these schools, we are strengthening the socio-economic fabric of our communities,” he stated.

He emphasised that the newly commissioned facilities, including an 18-classroom block, a renovated school complex, a food canteen, an Intro-Tech block, and improved sports facilities, are designed to foster academic excellence and holistic student development.

Beyond their impact on students, the governor highlighted the economic benefits of the projects, noting that they had created jobs during construction and would contribute to increased school enrollment, ultimately producing a more skilled workforce.

“This school reconstruction sends a powerful message: Education matters. Our children matter. Their future is worth investing in. This should inspire parents to prioritise education, encourage students to dream bigger, and foster a greater sense of community pride,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also challenged students to excel in their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), assuring them of continued government support.

“I look forward to seeing outstanding results in the next WAEC examinations. Your success will inspire us to do even more for our schools and communities,” he urged.

The governor commended the leadership of the SCRPS for ensuring that Lagos schools are adequately equipped to meet the state’s educational goals.

He assured residents that his administration would not only complete ongoing school projects but also provide all necessary resources to enhance learning.

Beyond education, he pledged to deliver key road projects in Ikorodu and build additional primary and secondary schools to cater to the state’s growing population.

 Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the school projects as a testament to the government’s commitment to educational excellence and student well-being.

“These facilities will not only enhance academic performance but also provide an enabling environment for students to learn and grow,” he said.

Similarly, the Chairman of SCRPS, Mr. Hakeem Smith, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support in rebuilding public schools, ensuring that students receive quality education in a conducive environment.
